URBAN DISCIPLE The Answers
"The Answers", sophmore album of Tampa, Florida, youth pastor/gospel rapper, Urban Disciple, features artist like Cruz Cordero of The Cross Movement, Sabe, Sons of Intellect, Clergy, Golden Child, Tribe, Serious D, and LOsOne. Most of the artist belong to " La Familia of 813" (area code of Tampa) who, along with Urban D, have recently formed Fla Vor Records.
The opening track, "Roots," With Cruz Cordero, is the best cut on the album. laces with a catchy Mediterranian guitar hook, anthem-like chorus, and a tight beat, this track is sure to please those into that East Coast flava'. Shinin' through also, is the track "Substance and Content," featuring 813squad member Sabe. Urban D and Sade are on point with lyrics like:
"(when) most emcees out to make dollars / we out to make sense / Both emcees no holds barred message of Christ represention and salvation / while not in it for compensation..."
It's a statement directed at those Gospel artist, only in it for the money and not to praise God. Some of the remaining songs suffer from sub-par mixing and less creative producing. This tends to undermin the skills of the emcees, and can be somewhat distracting.
If you can look past the distractions, however, you will be blessed to hear testimonies given by urban D's youth group. On "Street Stories" and "A Place Called Crossover" some of the youth speak of "Jesus Christ being brought to them on their level. Now that's what it's all about.
Despite the album's overshadowed production flaws, Urban D's lyrical skills, East Coast flava, and guest emcees shine on this project.
